zhitabs ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a tab manager and workspace organizer browser extension designed to help you organize open tabs into visual kanban boards, restore sessions, and save memory.
Your privacy is our highest priority. zhitabs is built on a Zero-Knowledge, Local-First architecture. We do not operate tracking servers, we do not collect personal identifiers, and we never sell your data to third parties.
1. Information We Access and How We Use It
zhitabs only accesses the minimum browser data necessary to provide its core tab management features:
- Browser Tab Data (
tabs, tabGroups):
- Data accessed: URL, page title, favicon URL, and window/group identifiers of your open browser tabs.
- Purpose: Displaying your currently open tabs in the companion panel, allowing you to drag tabs into collections, grouping restored tabs using the native Chrome Tab Groups API, and closing captured tabs to free RAM memory.
- Storage: When you save a tab or session, this information is stored locally on your device inside
chrome.storage.local.
- User Workspace Content (
storage, unlimitedStorage):
- Data stored: Custom space names, collection titles, note text annotations, and preferences (such as dark theme and interface language).
- Storage: Kept exclusively in your browser’s local storage on your computer.
2. What We Do NOT Do
- We DO NOT collect personal data: We do not collect your name, physical address, browsing history outside of your explicitly saved tabs, or keystrokes.
- We DO NOT track or profile you: There are no Google Analytics, third-party analytics SDKs, trackers, or advertising pixels embedded within zhitabs.
- We DO NOT sell or transfer your data: We do not sell, rent, monetize, or transfer your saved tabs or personal data to brokers, advertising networks, or data aggregators.
- We DO NOT use your data for lending or credit purposes: Your information is never used to determine creditworthiness or for financial profiling.
3. Data Retention and Deletion
- Local Deletion: You can delete any saved card, note, collection, or space at any time. Deleted items are moved to the extension's built-in Recycle Bin, where you can restore them or choose "Empty Bin" to permanently erase them from your local device.
- Local Backup File: In Preferences → Backup & Restore you can export your entire workspace as a plain JSON file on your own computer, and import such a file back (merge or overwrite). The file never leaves your machine unless you move it yourself.
- Uninstalling: Uninstalling zhitabs immediately removes all local data stored by the extension in your browser profile.
4. Third-Party Services
zhitabs communicates with external networks strictly in the following scenario:
- Favicon Retrieval: Displaying icons for your saved websites. Favicons are loaded directly from the respective websites or Google's public favicon cache.
5. Security
All local storage is isolated within Chrome's sandboxed extension storage; it is not readable by websites or by other extensions. Because all data is stored offline on your local device, your tabs and notes remain under your direct control at all times. Note that data at rest is protected by your local user account and Chrome profile security — zhitabs does not add a separate encryption layer, so please do not store sensitive secrets or passwords in note cards.
6. Children's Privacy
zhitabs does not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children under the age of 13.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be reflected in the extension’s documentation and repository with a revised "Last updated" date.
